Caribbean Evangelism was founded by its Managing Director, Vincent F. Graham in 1969 while a junior at Ozark Christian College. This came about after two successful evangelistic summer tours (1968 & 1969) throughout the Caribbean and South America. After graduation in May 1970, Vincent returned to Jamaica in October the same year to minister to the Penwood Church of Christ, to evangelise through big tent crusades and to start new Churches. By 1974 CEI reached its peak in evangelism and training. The Penwood Church of Christ, a small congregation when I started there, grew to be one of the largest Churches of Christ in the English speaking Caribbean. We have won and trained some of the finest young men and women who are now ministering all over.
These are some of the countries and islands where CEI has gone to teach, preach and help to established new churches:
o Jamaica
o Grand Cayman
o Haiti
o Puerto Rico
o Antigua
o Saint Lucia
o Grenada
o Barbados
o Saint Vincent
o Trinidad
o Guyana
o South and North America
o Canada
o England
o India
o Korea
o Russia.
During these 35 years CEI has baptized thousands of people into Christ and trained many young men who are now in the ministry and have also helped to start many new churches.
In recent years CEI has built the Eastern Church of Christ, the Howard Parkway Church of Christ, the Linstead Church of Christ and a big Medical Clinic in Kingston, Jamaica. This Clinic consists of General Medical, Dental and Optical facilities. We operate as a free clinic in the inner city of Kingston, through volunteer medical personals mainly from North America.
At present CEI is responsible for four churches, namely Meadowbrook, Eastern, Howard Parkway and Linstead. We are involved in early childhood education and operate two infant schools.
For the last 26 years we broadcast a weekly radio program that takes the gospel into the cities, towns and villages of Jamaica.
My Wife Alice and myself, married August 1975. After retiring from the BNS, where she worked for 33 years, she became co-director of CEI and administrator for both schools. Over the years she has been a tower of strength to the entire work of CEI. We have one daughter, Janice Graham-Neil, who is married and living in the USA.
Caribbean Evangelism is totally supported by churches and individuals of the Churches of Christ and Christian Churches in the USA.
Here we must mention four special people who have served the ministry for over 20 years. First, Harvey and Nancy Bacus served faithfully as our Forwarding Agent. The Bacus’ have been our friends and co-workers for nearly 40 years. They have resigned as Forwarding Agent to attend to their own overseas ministries. Secondly, Don and Linda Brister, who served faithfully with the Bacus’ for over 20 years. They are now our only Forwarding Agents. The Bristers and us are friends for 38 years. Thank God for the years of fellowship we share.
Thanks to all our faithful friends and supporters over these many years. Please do remember that is through your faithful prayers and support that keeps the light of Caribbean Evangelism burning. |
